LangeTwins Midnight Reserve 2018
Knowing the strengths of each vineyard distinguishes which grapes are best suited for the Midnight Reserve; for the 2017 vintage, we used Cabernet Sauvignon from Thirty Eight Vineyard and Railroad Vineyard, Petit Verdot from River Ranch Vineyard, Miller Vineyard Cabernet Franc.
Soft aromas of violets with vanilla accents, dried figs and black currant aromas unfold in the glass. Flavors of black cherry and ripe plum are supported by round tannins and an elegant, silky mouthfeel. From the mid-palate onward, the fruitiness turns savory and bittersweet, leading to a long, smooth finish of dark chocolate and toffee.
The Lang Twins family settled in Lodi in the 1870s and have been growing watermelons here ever since. They began viticulture in 1916.
Learning the know-how of agriculture from their great-grandfather, the grandfather and father expanded the vineyard and started the winery in 2006, and now the fifth generation, along with the sixth generation, are involved in winemaking.
The vineyards are located in Lodi, Clement Hill Sub, and Clarksburg, with over 3,000 hectares of vineyards. The grape varieties range from Zinfandel, the most representative of the Lodi vineyard, to 33 varieties.
The vineyard has 33 varieties, including Zinfandel, the most representative of Lodi's grape varieties. They pride themselves on exploring the potential of each grape variety to create wines that are enjoyable to pair with food.
The wines are all Certified Green, a natural certification from Lodi, which is granted only to wines that have been rigorously reviewed and approved according to a 101-point criteria.
The winemaker is David Akiyoshi, formerly head winemaker at Robert Mondavi.
